GRAPHITE (slide-show)
Realism and Details

With pencils I draw portraits and animaldrawings in a realistic and detailed manner. Even I draw in a realistic style, the drawings are not photo-realistic, but has it own unique expression.
Intention: To create beautiful, expressive portraits and drawings in black/white
Tools: I mostly use lead-pencils. 0,5 mm - 0,9 mm and 2 mm leads in both the H and B range.
My erasers are blu-tack (only the type from Bostik will do)!
Drawingpaper, white, smooth and at least 200 gsm. There is a great difference how will black is achieved on papers, so this is an important issue when choosing paper.

COLOR PENCILS (slide-show)
Realism, Details and Colors

Animals and nature are drawn and painted in a realistic style,
but colors are often more important than tiny details, to get the expression I want.
Wellknown figures in lively colors.
This gallery also contains several animalportraits in a realistic style
Intention: To create colorful and storytelling pictures and portraits.
Tools: I use a variaty of different brands of cp's; Karisma (Prismacolor), Faber Castell Polychromos,  Derwent Artist, -ColorSoft and -Studio, Lyra Rembrandt, Caran d'Ache Pablo + a couple of others. They have different leads, but mostly mix well. It is important to use artist grade cp's.
Paper; I like Stonehenge paper and Fabriano Disengo Accademia. I also tried some watercolor-papers (smooth) with succes. I have made a few cp-drawings on W&N Bristol Board Extra smooth - this is not able to take as many layers due to the extra smooth surface.

WATERCOLORS/ACRYLIC (slide-show)
 Realism and Colors

When the colors in a motif is what inspires me the most, I choose these watermedias specific abilities - layer on layer - to produce beautiful paintings.
Intention: To create facinating paintings of colors and light
Tools: I use artist grade watercolors and acrylics from different brands. And a variaty of brushes from size 01 to 12. For large wet-in-wet areas, I have a hake-brush and an ox-hair brush.
Papers - at least 300 gsm - I like Fabriano, Arches and Saunders Waterford. Hot or Cold but not the rough type.

PASTELS (slide-show)
 Realism and Colors

Portraits and Animalpaintings.
Intention: To create beautiful, expressive and colorful portraits and paintings.
Tools: I use soft, hard and pastel-pencils of different brands.
The papers are pastel-papers in different colors.

Other issues when I draw and paint:

  • I use a drawingtable, that can be set at an angle.
The table is lifted using dry media and flat using wet media.
  • I use a lamb with daylight-bulbs.
  • An electric sharpener is worth the money (not battery).
  • To avoid smudging the paper I use plexi-glass from a small frame, in each corner I attached a small pad to keep it lifted. A piece of paper/tracing paper is fine too.
  • I use removable tape around the picture to keep edges clean.
