Artist Statement
To draw and paint is my passion. My greatest inspiration and favorite motives have always been animals and nature .
I love animals and having animals around me + living with access to nature are important to me. I share house with my husband, my daughter, a norwegian buhund, 3 cats and a hamster.
I am fascinated by the wonderful nuances of shapes,colors, textures and patterns found in nature. The texture of fur, the glow in an animals eyes, or how sunlight bounce over fur or feathers. The repetitive pattern of animals in groups. etc. - a neverending inspration. I love animals and Nature so they are my chosen subjects/motifs.
In my drawings and paintings I try visually to express my feelings from my observations; to engage the viewer by conveying a mood or "a story.
I support several nature/animalorganisations, as the world would be a poor place to live without them!
In the traditional portrait I try to capture both likeness and personality of the animal. Often in a headportrait on white/neutral background with vignette style.
I am also attracted to many motifes in the "humanmade" world, but so far I haven't drawn or painted much of that. But I get a lot of ideas so perhaps one day.
I work in a variaty of media: Pencils, colored pencils, water color, acrylic and pastels.
Artist Biography:
My name is Lene Daugaard. I was born in 1961.
I live in a village nearby Aarhus in Denmark. I have drawn since childhood.
I was educated as a graphic designer, but my great interest are fine arts.
Since 2002 I have been using much more time and concentration on developing my skills, than ever before.
Having a foundation in drawing I also started painting in watercolors, color pencils, acrylic and pastel.
I consider myself mainly selftaught, but did have great advantage from these courses:
Classic drawing - "School of Graphic Design" Denmark v/Søren Jensen
Colorpencil - supervised by the american artist Bet Borgeson
Watercolor - course with Alec Krylow
AWARDS & ACCOMPLISHMENT:
I won several drawing competitions through the years
I have exhibited in Denmark in 2004, 2005 and 2007.

*** International Show 2008: "Oldenburger Horse" is juried into the Art Horse Magazine show, and will be in both on-line show and in the book from the show.
